Commissioning and Retro-Commissioning

Today, owners need experienced commissioning professionals to determine if building and plant systems operate properly and at peak efficiency. These systems are complex in nature and responsible for controlling environment, operations, data, communications, safety and security factors.

Commissioning (Cx) is the quality-oriented systematic process for achieving, verifying, and documenting that the performance of facility systems and assemblies meets defined owner objectives. This process begins during the pre-design phase and continues for the life of the project through the occupancy and operations phase of the facility.

Retro-commissioning is a collaborative process which examines how building systems are operated and maintained, and then identifies ways to restore them to optimal performance. It's also an adaptive process that meets the specific needs of each owner. Often, problems that have developed through the duration of the building's life are addressed, as well as problems that occurred during building design or construction.

The overall goal of both is to optimize the energy consumption profiles of facilities; this directly correlates into financial
savings for owners.

Commissioning and retro-commissioning are some of our fastest-growing practice areas. In a short period of time, MBP has managed to earn a reputation as one of the more experienced and knowledgeable providers of these services. Our expert team and proven processes deliver cost reductions and added efficiency to facilities and their owners.

New York City Recognizes Value of Energy Efficiencies with Local Law 87

New York City Local Law 87 (LL87) requires large buildings to be retro-commissioned and audited for energy conservation measures. Click here to learn more about LL87.

  • Passionate: Our commissioning team loves what they do and almost no one in our industry knows more about or understands the commissioning process as well as our Director of Commissioning, James Mascaro.
  • Cost-savings: We deliver results in the form of cost savings. Our recent RCx projects with the University of Virginia resulted in more than $350,000 in costs savings.
  • Maximum efficiency: Our RCx and Cx services will help your facility to run at peak efficiency and improve overall functionality of systems.

MBP was contracted to provide retro-commissioning services on both the City Hall HVAC and the DATA Facility projects. In each situation they provided prompt and detailed analysis as well as invaluable advice on resolving the issues at hand."
