MBP provided project management, construction management support, staff augmentation, construction inspection, cost analysis, and project closeout services. This project consisted of Norfolk’s starter light rail line, The Tide, which extends 7.4 miles. It is the Commonwealth’s first light rail system and the largest public works project in the City of Norfolk’s history. It included construction of four park and ride locations, a vehicle maintenance facility, and 11 stations that provide access to major areas. The light rail system is comprised of nine light rail vehicles (LRV). The Tide operates a two-car train that runs on tracks in city streets containing mixed traffic and at elevated or ground-level on dedicated right-of-way. The LRVs are driven by an on-board train operator and powered by an overhead electrical system, making the system clean and quiet.
