The Inova Schar Cancer Institute (ISCI) is the first of many major projects Inova is undertaking since acquiring the land and buildings which previously served as Exxon Mobil’s Headquarters. The 117 acres of land off Gallows Road in Merrifield will soon become a hub of scientific and technological innovation that will make Fairfax County a destination for the global medical community. Inova Health System has spent the past few years working to transform 1.2 million square feet of office space into the Inova Center for Personalized Health to house clinics, research labs, a cancer institute, and other vital functions that officials hope will pave the way for the future of healthcare. The new ISCI will be housed in the 12-story Building B and will include an additional 108,000-square-foot addition to Building A to house linear accelerators and other imaging equipment. Upon completion, the ISCI will be the largest cancer facility in Northern Virginia and the greater Washington D.C. metropolitan area, and will provide state-of-the-art imaging, a variety of treatment technologies, and disease specific physician expertise to deal with common, rare, and unusual cancers.
