MBP provided estimating services that were performed during schematic design, 35% design, 65% design, and final design phases. All estimates were performed using the USACE MCACES MII estimating software. The project involved the demolition of the existing elementary school, and the building of a new 95,552-square-foot, two-story elementary school. The project included teaching systems for alternative energy education including solar and wind power collection and monitoring. The sloped site provided ground level entrance to both the lower and upper floors. Anti-terrorism/force protection measures were included in the design of the exterior walls, windows, and site. The challenging site conditions included a large amount of rock excavation and numerous retaining walls. Different retaining wall materials were estimated in different scenarios to help achieve the best project design for these critical site elements. Particular attention was devoted to the site excavation costs considering the volume of rock removal.
